Summer BMX Jam August 2006
The jam took place on Sunday 6th of August.  After hearing the news of the possible closure of the skatepark, this could be one of the last bike jams that rev is going to have. So the number of riders expected to turn up was pretty high.
The jam was an all day event and the park began to fill up quickly. Riders from all round Kent and further afield turned up ready to showcase their riding.
It started off with the high jump comp, which took place on the deathbox. A wooden structure was placed on top with a bar across the middle, and a height meter to the side. It did look quite daunting standing at the top of the roll in looking down at it.  Starting off at just a few feet most riders cleared it with ease. But as it got higher some riders found it difficult to get over it. It came down to four riders, maggot, Sam, Jamie and will. After all managing to clear the six-foot mark it began to get serious. Sam decided he could do no more after a few harsh landings trying to get over 6 and a half feet. The same with will after trying to clear the 7 foot mark. Both Maggot and Jamie cleared 7 feet. At this height riders not only had to try and get over the bar but also had to keep a close eye on the rafters, which were very close above. In the end Maggot was the only one who could get over the 7 and a half foot mark which gave him the win.
Next up came a small jam on the outside mini/half pipe ramp. The prize for this was a pair of trainers. It was a really relaxed jam as people just chilled and quite a few watched. Lots of technical tricks were fired off as well as massive airs, whips and more. In the end Maggot produced a win again with some top notch riding, which included cross-footed, opposite and technical riding.
Next was the under 16’s riding. It was good to see so many enter and also the level of riding was surprisingly high. There were many highlights such as barspins, spins on the spine and crazy tailwhip attempts. There was a lot of action and a lot of talent.

2nd Glen
3rd Phil

The over 16’s was more like watching a pro bmx dvd. There were 360 whips, tons of whips, flips, massive airs, flair attempts, big 360’s, wallrides. The new sub box at the back of the park was put to use nicely. Some carved it smoothly while others boosted above it.  It was intense riding and it was at such a high level it left many in the crowd stunned. The results must have been close as there were many well-matched riders.
1st Maggott
2nd Issac
3rd Jamie

Hopefully this will not be the last jam and there will be many more to come.

A great comp with some amazing riders!
You can read all about it below.
Firstly, I have to say that the main reason for doing these Comps is not for us, the people that work at the Skatepark, but for the BMX'ers that regularly use the park. Why then, do so many of the local guys bottle out of entering the thing at the last minute, the same guys that know the park inside-out and could easily clean up? I'm sure that this will remain a mystery and is probably some deep, dark secret known only by BMX'ers. Oh well, onto the Comp then…
As usual, the event was split into 3 groups, Novice, Intermediate and Open. Usually the Novice section is the busiest group, but today for some reason, there weren't that many takers as usual. For one of them though, the day was all a bit much and decided that a good comic and fizzy drink with mum was a far better option. By the way, if you thought that I was talking about Joe Kelly, he was actually injured and judged instead. (The lengths some people will go to not to have to enter these things is ridiculous!)
The two remaining entrants were George Beresford and Sonny Forde. George flew around the course without a care in the world and got a hearty round of applause for a really good effort. Sonny Forde, I'm pretty sure, will be a name that you will be hearing about a lot more if he sticks to BMX. This kid really has some bottle and no shortage of ability making no footed transfers over the volcano-spine look easy; putting several of the intermediate group to shame I have to add. Needless to say, Sonny got first place. Good work that man!
The Intermediate section consisted of a few more of the regular faces here at the park. Standout of the section had to be Mad Mike who Backflipped the Deathbox no-handed and generally blazed around the park in a manner befitting his name.
The Open section was a good mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces. Some sponsored, some not, mostly British with 1 American, from Whitstable via (viva?) Las Vegas . With the absence of Maggot due to injury, the Comp was wide open for anyone to win. The standard of riding was pretty bloody outstanding and seems to have improved dramatically, even since the last Comp in May of this year. Maybe this was because everyone thought they could sniff a possible win and were willing to risk life and limb for another pair of pink tyres! (Much to everyone's disappointment, we weren't able to get any this time……… sorry).
Danny Omar was going all-out to kill himself, doing Backflips over the Deathbox and just to top it all, decided that now would be just the right time to try a Flair (Backflip to 180 degree turn; landing forward) for the first time. The crowd went mental, demanding that even though he landed on his head, he should try it again…..and again. Needless to say, he just had to be awarded the Best Slam prize which could so easily have been Best Trick!
Talking of which, the other standout of the day, Las Vegas transplant Blake Rumsey, impressed the judges with an immensely fast, long and high wallride to flatbank and walked away with that very prize.
Will Smith blasted another of his trademark (screw the consequences) airs out of the quarterpipe, hanging up but not quite causing as much damage as he did last comp. Coxy had his fan club present and narrowly managed to avoid taking Best Slam on several occasions.
Paul Wilson was ripping with big airs and some neat lip work but it was Duffs sponsored Phil Aller that blew everyone away. The guy was pulling 3-4 tricks back to back in the quarter-bowl section alone. The height he was getting on his wallrides were actually up in the rafters and I can't remember him actually bailing a single trick. So no surprises when I tell you that he won 1st place.

Blood Sweat and Spokes BMX Comp (Sunday 2nd May 2004)

The first BMX comp of the year brought many faces to the park with registration starting early due to the enthusiasm of the competitors.
The riders were all warming up to the tunes of our in-house DJ, Andy Colgate Barratt. Our Local Rock band Public Disorder were unable to rock the bikers whilst they rode (due to a hangover we believe) hopefully next time guys!
The comp kicked off with the Novice’s and a good display of young talent was in evidence. The riders had 2 runs of 1 minute and all tried their best with prizes going to Ryan Bruno, and Chris Scholes for good effort. It was local lad Robin Elliot who impressed the judges with clean stylish runs taking first place. Straight after, it was the Intermediate Category, this was the most popular section with loads of riders ready to battle it out. The Sittingbourne crew were in force and first to go was Daniel Omer much to his delight. The standard was impressive with Georgie Hearne, George Culliane, and Keith Denne doing well on their first runs. The second minute runs gave the rider’s a last chance to impress the judges and it showed with the guys going big and scoring high. As the Guys went bigger the slams got bigger too and thanks to Will Smith, Phill Belsey and Thomas who all pleased the crowd with some crazy slams. First place went to Tom Iveson who didn’t bust out sick or big but was consistent and ultra smooth and on the day that was what counted.
On to the Open and the one we had been waiting for, there weren’t loads of entries but the quality was amazing. First to go was Maggot who rode sick from start to finish going really big and landing perfectly with tricks such as tail whips to ice picks on the vert wall. It has to be said that it was one of the best BMX runs ever to be pulled at Revolution.

Mark "Maggot" Love: Open 1st

Dave Wilson: Intermediate 2nd Chris Scholes: Best Effort

Clive Stead: Open 2nd Adam Cox: Just before Best Slam

With such a good run it was going to take some beating, Jamie McGinlay was next to follow, tearing the park to pieces with a great run. Clive Stead went crackers doing tricks like nothings and huge 360’s on the quarter. Adam Cox was giving it his all but had a couple of big bails and ate ply. Mikey Ball finished off with a back flip but over rotated, seconds later his front wheel fell off? And that was the end of his run. All competitors gave it everything, but that wasn’t enough to take it back from Maggot.
Once the judges had totalled up the scores it was prize giving time with the usual sticker and product toss to delight the crowd.

Skate/BMX Jams
The next Skate and BMX Jams will take place on Saturday the 22nd of May. (BMX 4pm-6pm Skate 6pm-8pm)
The Jams are basically just a good excuse to come down, listen to some loud music and push each other to the limit!
Winter BMX Jam (Saturday 17th January 2004)
This is the second Jam session of the year and attracted pretty much the same amount of riders as last time. The Jam gave all of the riders to have the park to themselves over the course of 2 hours. DJ Colgate spun his own unique brand of Death Metal Ambient Trance whilst riders threw their bikes into some pretty hairy places. The next Jam is on Saturday the 20th of March between 4.00pm and 6.00pm.
Dont miss it!
